Free Press Release Writing Guide

News Anchor - Credit: StockXpert.comI launched another new project yesterday - a free press release writing guide at FreePressReleaseWriting.com. I think we’ll make this the first project that I let readers of this blog follow along with on its progress towards success or failure. Here are some of the details:

  • The initial content is mostly from my other sites or from a PLR article set I wrote (not one I purchased from elsewhere). I’ll be expanding on that shortly… I just didn’t want to launch it naked.
  • My PR blog always monetized really well ($.50 - 2.00 per click can be common), so I went with some contextual ads (Adsense in this case) to see how that pans out. Those ads are currently in two locations: the sidebar and within posts.
  • I’ll be adding an affiliate leaderboard to a press release distribution / PR site above the main content on all pages (just above or just below the navigation bar).
  • I’m promoting my own press release writing services with a press release writer profile, which will be set as featured to always appear at the top of the list (hey… I’m allowed to promote myself when I’m managing the site), as well as always appearing in the sidebar while the next four will always display the latest additions there.
  • I’ll also be monetizing the site by promoting my relevant e-books (currently my Press Releases Made Easy e-book). As of now, it’s the main focus on the homepage, simply because it was the latest thing added to the “resources” section (where I’ll periodically feature my own products, sites, and affiliates to help monetize things - among other resources). I’ll likely keep promoting the e-book with a banner at the bottom of the main content area of the site or something once it’s pushed from the top resource spot.
  • That means I’m monetizing with advertising, informational products, and services. I’ll need to make some tweaks so I can track the latter two (a dedicated email address for this site, and probably directly sell the ebook instead of pushing it to my business site). So for now most of my tracking will be for the ads.
  • I’ll probably also monetize by eventually charging a small fee for service providers to be listed (keeping it free for now to build up the list), or I’ll charge for placement on the sidebar instead of always showing the most recent.
  • I’m also considering setting up a section of the site for very basic press release distribution, but with a larger project in mind on that front, I haven’t made a final decision yet. If I do, I can obviously monetize that (with ads on free submissions, and with upgraded ad-free versions with additional features).
  • Other than being mentioned on a few of my own sites and a webmaster forum, there hasn’t been any promotion yet. I’ll likely mention it in writers’ groups to get profile submissions set up over the course of this week. When I have a bit more content posted, and some new profiles submitted, I’ll start with heavier promotion, like a lot of blog commenting, a launch press release (obviously), pushing it on my main PR blog and business site, etc.
  • As you’ll see, I don’t have much in the way of bookmarking and subscription options included. I’ll be fixing that in the next day or two as well.

And that’s that… the introductory plan for FreePressReleaseWriting.com. I’ll update progress here as it happens.
