Moveable Type Open Source Project

Written on June 11, 2007 – 12:55 pm | by Jennifer Mattern |

If you haven’t heard yet, the SixApart blogging platform Moveable Type will be releasing an open source version in conjunction with their 4.0 commercial release. They’re not abandoning their commercial lines of blogging software, but are releasing an open source base at the request of developers and bloggers. Will the Moveable Type Open Source Project be a threat to Wordpress?

I doubt it. A lot of bloggers are committed to Wordpress. WP has a huge development community behind it, and more options available for bloggers with things like themes and plugins. I remember using Moveable Type when About.com was still using them. I liked the platform. I’ll likely give the open source version a shot when it’s released for download this summer by launching a new blog or something. But more than likely, I’ll be keeping my more serious projects on Wordpress.

Your thoughts? Are you just itching to give MTOS a try? Or are you content with your current blogging platform enough to stick with it and not be swayed by the news?
