October Stats: Surprising but not Exciting

Jack-o-lantern - Credit: Alicia SolarioWhile I did say I won’t give specific stats and earnings info for my larger sites, I was checking on their overall traffic trends for October, so I thought I’d share a little bit about whether they went up or down, and why. I’m surprised the stats weren’t much worse on these sites last month actually.

BizAmmo.com - Unique visitors were slightly up and pageviews were slightly down. Frankly I just haven’t been posting here enough beyond sponsored posts. While this is technically a business “blog,” I treat it as more of a general content site, so there’s not much interaction. I did finally add some subscription / bookmarking options a bit more obviously a few days ago, so that may help moving forward. I’m also planning to start more news-oriented posts in the “blog” section to try to get a bit more of that interaction / discussion finally going. This site went live in August 2006, but was only moved to blog format this past Spring (platform-wise; not in treatment).

AllFreelanceWriting.com - This one had my biggest increases - almost doubling its unique visitors and nearly a 50% increase in pageviews. It was a shocker, especially because I had done nearly nothing to market the site all month. The biggest boost in traffic came from Stumbleupon, and there was a huge amount of traffic to a very brief article listing some writing forums (which didn’t come from SU by the way, because it hadn’t been added there). If anything, I would have thought that my new featured list of writing blogs would have done better. I’m a bit disappointed, so I’ll have to expand it and promote it more. I also need to get back on my controversial blog posts over there… I’ve been much too mild since putting myself on a schedule of regular posting topics (writing jobs, writers’ resources, marketing tips, etc.). I’m losing my edge. :(

NakedPR.com - This one had a minor drop in unique visitors and a minor increase in pageviews. So fewer people, but they’re viewing more of the site, so I guess that’s a good sign at least. :) I fully expected a drop here; a bigger one actually. I haven’t been posting frequently (I’ve been busy with other blogs, blogging about online PR for a client’s company blog, and gearing up to launch a second PR blog as my official company blog so I’m debating the future angle of this one). It’s primarily where I rant about idiotic things in online PR. There’s been plenty to rant about lately, but I just haven’t really been in the mood. I’m enjoying the cold air, rain, and blustery Fall days so much that I just can’t get into the mood to bitch enough. :( I did however get a good bit of traffic to my post on why Facebook sucks, which amused me because I’d been itching to write it for ages. :) I’m sure I’ll be in ranting mode again soon. I’d better be. It’s how I get all of my natural incoming links and most of my traffic over there. :) I’m also planning to start upping the “resource” posts and tutorials to help webmasters with their DIY PR efforts, so that may also help - my post on effective free press release distribution has also served me very well for that market traffic-wise. :)

So there you have it… a very general “report card” about what a bad girl I’ve been so far this Fall and how my sites are suffering for it. :D
